<Plum Blossom / Ume>
The plum blossom is the first to bloom during the cold season, so its flower language is “patience,” and it is said to be a flower that brings spring by overcoming difficult times.
<Star Plum Blossom / Hoshi Umebachi>
This family crest is rooted in Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, where Sugawara no Michizane—the god of learning—is enshrined, and is said to have originated as the shrine’s emblem. As the Tenjin faith, which venerates Michizane as a deity, spread throughout Japan, this crest also became widespread across the country. The plum blossom is famous as Michizane’s favorite flower, and various plum-themed family crests are used at Tenjin shrines nationwide.
